Something C“old”
After 12 years and tens of thousands of visitors, Crystal Cabin Fever will be closing it’s doors...well sort of! “It was a tough decision” says Mark Crouthamel, owner of Sculpted Ice Works and creator of Crystal Cabin Fever. After more than a decade of creating the large ice attraction with over 100 tons of ice annually, and creating dozens of seasonal jobs to help draw many visitors and dollars to Lake Wallenpaupack area each February, we felt responsible to keep it going. Unfortunately the changes in the weather patterns that brought unpredictable warm weather the last few years created conditions that affected the quality and the attendance of Crystal Cabin Fever making it unprofitable the last few years. “The things I’ll miss the most are the joy in people’s faces and the pride felt in creating an event that helped the community each winter in both job creation and traffic to local businesses,” says Mark.
What is Sculpted Ice Works going to do now? We’ll do what we have been doing for almost 20 years, continuing to create beautiful sculptures and ice blocks year round, to supply the wedding and event industries. We’ll also continue to produce Winter Carnivals and Ice Festivals around the North East each winter! There is always a possibility that elements of what we’ve created at Crystal Cabin Fever might appear at other local Ice Festivals again in the future!
What’s New?
The beautiful barn that has been the home of Crystal Cabin Fever has taken on yet another
purpose! In 2016 the first Wedding was hosted in the barn, now called “The Ice House” (event Barn.) This year, in 2018, fourteen weddings and celebrations took advantage of the unique event space. Brides and grooms love the barn for its natural and rustic feel and that they can create their own custom event with the barn and its grounds as a perfect “palate” to build upon. “We’re excited to develop the property to better serve the popular rustic and barn venue markets,” stated Mark Crouthamel. The Ice House plans on marketing to weddings, anniversaries, reunions, festivals, proms and more! More information can be found at www.theicehousebarn.com and www.Sculptediceworks.com.
